Change to service pattern

There will be a change to the pattern of church services starting in January. We will still have the regular Wednesday morning service at 9am and will celebrate the Eucharist on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at 9.30am, but Breathe (our quiet, reflective Sunday evening service) will move from the 2nd Sunday to the 1st, still at 6pm. Church4ALL at Potterhanworth will be twice a month, at 4pm on 2nd & 4th Sundays. January's services below at a glance!  And you can always see the services for the month on our "services" page.

Christmas activities!

A handy all-in-one guide to the church Christmas activities.  And don't forget the Christmas Tree Festival this weekend - starts tomorrow!

Walk the walk this Christmas

This isn’t really a Christmas article – more an invitation to come and enjoy the experience of ‘Joe Carpenter and Son: an English Nativity’. On Friday December 6th – in the heart of Potterhanworth.

Joe Carpenter and Son is an exciting theatrical telling of the Nativity story. It’s based on a lovely children’s book by Graham Clarke, recounting the events of the birth of Jesus. And it’s being acted for us by Mr Murderie’s Players.

Mr Murderie and his Players are a very talented bunch. Among other things, they put on murder mystery evenings for local charities. Last month they produced the Branston Plough Play to celebrate the British National Ploughing Championships at Nocton. And for the last couple of years they’ve put on Joe Carpenter and Son. Last year at Nocton, the year before at Branston.

So now this year, Joe Carpenter comes to Potterhanworth. The event begins in the Memorial Hall, then we walk around the middle of the village, serenaded by carol singers, meeting the characters, and watching the story unfold. After visiting the church, we return to the Hall for supper: home-made soup, crusty bread and cheese, coffee and cake.

It’s a great evening whether you come as a family or on your own. Either way, it’s a good idea to bring a lantern or a torch. And you’ll need tickets. So please contact Janet at janetrsuthern@gmail.com or 797-078 or Rev’d Lorna at lorna.brabinsmith@btinternet.com 794-868. £6 for adults, under 12yrs £3, 3yrs and under FREE.

Two performances, one at 6.00pm, the other at 7.30pm - so choose whichever works for you. If you missed ‘Joe Carpenter and Son’ when it came to Nocton last year, catch up at Potterhanworth this year. Friday December 6th – see you there!

Happy Christmas everyone.
Love Lorna

Carol singing

We will be singing carols in the village again this year (sorry).  Please join us!  We will start at the Cottage Care Home at 6 pm on Monday 16 December and sing carols with the residents before moving onto Wellhead Lane (you lucky people).  Refreshments afterwards.

Service to remember loved ones

Thank you, generous people!

The final figure for the collection for the Lincolnshire Rural Support Network at the Ploughing service was £298.10.  A further £126 was donated to the RNLI at the collection after the Plough Play.

Thanks to everyone for your support!

Macmillan coffee morning

Once again we will be taking part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.  Please join us if you can!  Offers of cakes welcome...

Harvest Celebration

Normally we would have the Harvest Supper in the Village Hall, but clearly that's not possible this year, so there will not be a Harvest Supper after the Harvest Celebration service, but we will be serving canapés and drinks in the church immediately after the service.

Taking the ....

For years the church has been graced by an ugly concrete wall adjacent to the north porch.  Village lore says it was a urinal (lovely).  As we now have proper facilities inside the church, and having received the necessary permission from the Chancellor of the Diocese, His Honour Judge Mark Bishop - the concrete wall urinal is no more!  Many thanks to David, Jim, John and Ted for doing - literally - the heavy lifting.

After

Looks much better, doesn't it?  There is still some tidying up to be done but this is how it was meant to look!

Saturday 3 August 2019

Something a bit different!

There will be a service in the evening of Friday 11 October to set the event off, followed by a Plough Play performance.  More details later!
